Calhoun and Jay Jordan (OCLC’s president and CEO) spoke on The New World of Metadata – from OCLC’s point of view and thoughts on the future.
Calhoun’s powerpoint presentation this afternoon will be made available on the web in the near future. In it, there is a list of answers to the question “What will it mean ‘to catalogue’? in the future.
This was an exciting session and all I can say is “wooohooo!”. There are a lot of great ideas and strategies for the future of the library catalogue and much of it relies on the expertise and ingenuity of cataloguers. We need to share, collaborate, cooperate and make that metadata visible.
